Blog Contest - Name My New Fish!!!

Alright, so I know I have been WAY lax about keeping up with my blog. Since January I have completed my second year of graduate school, taken my written and oral Ph.D. candidacy exams, and advanced to candidacy. Needless to say, up until now, school and work has taken over my life.

But now I'm come back to you with a contest and a chance to win a pair of my fingerless gloves/gauntlets.

Last week was my birthday :) For one of my gifts, my supervisor at the Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) gave me a new pet! A beautiful ruby red Betta! Isn't he gorgeous? Now, I'm really horrible at thinking up names so I decided to open it up to the public.

To enter this contest:

1) Post a comment with your name idea
2) Comment must include a way for me to contact you if you win (i.e. Etsy store ID, email, etc.)

Contest will end next Friday, October 9. Hubby and I will then sit down and go through the names and choose :)

The person who suggests the winning name gets to choose a pair of fingerless gloves (not mittens) from my shop. I will stitch a custom pair if the winner would like a different color than those pre-made.

I would name him Hannibal. First thing that came to mind when I looked at the picture was Red Dragon.

Good luck with finding a name for him!

Hi!

I once bought a beta for my son, he named him Bob. Bob the Beta. Nice and simple. LOL Perhaps you'd like to keep your beta's name simple too. Can't get much more simple than Bob. :)

Oh, he's a beauty! I had one in college. His name was Burford (not a great name) and he met a tragic end. 'Nuff said.

I think your beta looks like a ... Sunset. Nicknamed Sunny.

Well - he's ruby red, right? Ruby is the red color of corundum, so how about Corundum, with Cory for a nickname?

Beautiful betta!

Name suggestions:

Commodus (crazy last Roman emperor after Marcus Aurelius)

Rubor (literally "red," but it also refers to red things, and is a guy name)

find me on etsy! :)

Red Dragon would also be an AWESOME name for him, Flamingo Junction...

Mars or Ares would also be a good name (Roman & Greek god of war).

I would name him rak (akr)
When ever my husband buy a new horse he just start calling him the name of the person he bought it from. Our last horse we call Sam, nothing even close to his real name.

I still like Carotene in honor of Betta (aka Beta) Carotene. :)
I thought about Rhodopsin, but nah that just sounds weird.

Unfortunately Pookie has been taken (lol, you know who I'm talking about).

Names are not my forte' but let's see I guess we don't know if the fish is a boy or a girl?
I'll go with Rusty for a boy and I liked Ginger from pns for a girl :)

I once had a red Betta named "Almighty Ruler." (From the movie "High Strung.") It suited him.

If you wanna be cajun, you could name him phideaux (fido). (Also had a Betta named that.)

The first name that popped into my head was Clover. It's cute, and it comes from the song "Crimson and Clover." Get it?

Yes, I am a dork, why do you ask?

Isn't there some kind of red algae you could name him after?

Frank.

Whenever I am in front of a group of people and am expected to address them individually by name, I screw it up. I've given up trying, and now just refer to everyone as "Frank". Although this doesn't always go ever well, it's pretty funny if I'm in a group of 6-year-old girls.

And, well, he looks like a Frank.

When I saw the fish, it reminded me of the betta a friend had a long time ago named Rafael... Like the ninja turtle with the red bandana. ;)

But you could always go with crimson because Crimson would just be a cool name. lol
